Thanks, Fuelshark! Or was it the fact that I DD a car for the first time in my life?

No, I haven’t bought one of the worst scams in automotive history, but I did finally take my CTS out for a round trip to Columbus, Texas and back to meet my parents for lunch. In my old F-150, this jaunt would have gotten me about 14 MPG (5.4 Triton V8 plus 4WD), but averaging 73 MPH on the highway got me 25.2 with the 304 horsie Direct Injected 3.6.

The funny thing is that, even averaging a speed higher than most limits on most highways in the nation, I still ended up with a fuel economy greater than I’ve ever accomplished in my life. The closest thing I’ve ever gotten to this was 18 MPG going about 60 between Austin and Houston (going slow because I had mattresses in the bed of the truck).

I could get used to this whole car thing.

When I drive my Mom’s Sonata, the MPG meter reads “LOL”

I’m willing to bet that's because you probably drive it like you stole it.

Not really. I drive a little bit more enthusiastically than her, but not by much.

On my normal short drive to work in the mornings I’ve been averaging about 16 MPG, but that’s almost all stop and go traffic (with a few 3/4 gusto launches thrown in for good measure). My truck was averaging 10.4 with feathered acceleration.

I get 20 on the trip computer, which is pretty poor considering how slow it is.

I typically get <10 in the Viper. I did get 14 last tank though!

I got just under 27 mpg on my last tank driving down to my parent’s house for Chriatmas, but I averaged about 78mpg and have the little 3.0L V6 that could in my CTS. I’ve gotten 40mpg in my Fit.

Damn, I was pretty sure someone said you were getting a Prius.

I was actually impressed. The Highway rating on it is 28, but they don't test the cars on 75 MPH Texas roads with traffic and rolling hills.

Point that person out so that I may kill them.

I love long highway trips mainly because I get to work on a ridiculously high average mpg for my GTO. That LOOOOOOOOOONG 6th gear has the LS1 turning about 1900rpm at 70mph. Dallas to Austin at an average of 90mph I got 24.7mpg.

Damn, so now that’s two death threats from you. Eh, these things happen.

It’s not a death threat. It’s just clearing out the riff raff that would accuse me of getting a Prius.

Plus, I have to play up my Kinja monicker.

Sounds about right. I’m sure steady state cruising at 60 would get you that 28.

My 2wd ‘06 Sierra is rated at 21 mpg highway. I got that once, after 500 miles of mostly steady state cruising at 60 mph around Northern Michigan.

If it makes you feel better, know that I have never threatened anyone’s life IRL. That's just rude.
